Hi there. I'm Jess Mason, founder of Mahasana Mind and Body, and I offer yoga, massage and wellbeing events. I specialise in helping busy mums who are feeling stressed and overwhelmed to feel calm and restored, through yoga and massage, so that they can keep on top of their busy schedule and enjoy time with their family.

Having lived in London for ten years, I have recently moved to Haslemere in Surrey to be closer to family and friends for the arrival of my first baby, Maisie Rae, who was born in September 2021. Being a busy mum myself, I understand the challenge of managing the mum-load, getting everyone and everything to the right place, at the right time, at the expense of prioritising my self-care. I decided to specialise in working with mums, helping you to feel refreshed, free from stress and tension and like you’re no longer pouring from an empty cup.

Why work with me?

What sets my treatments apart is my strong belief that busy mums not only need - but also deserve to prioritise looking after themselves as well as everyone else.

By giving yourself permission to make time and space for self-care, you will feel more patient and resilient in managing the challenges of the mum-load. As a result, you feel a sense of calm, confidence, and inner peace, helping you to fully enjoy precious moments with your kids and partners. Ultimately, this leads to a happier and more harmonious family life.

It's all about creating a happier and calmer family dynamic, one massage and yoga class at a time.

A little more about me

In a former life, I worked in NHS communications. I never felt like the office job was my thing, the daily commute, office politics and not living in line with my purpose left me feeling anxious and depressed. Following a life-changing accident in 2016 in which I sustained serious injuries, including a broken pelvis, I found that yoga and massage really helped me on the road to physical and mental recovery. Once healed, I decided to pursue my passion and completed my initial 200-hour yoga training with Roanna Harstad of Free Soul Yoga and qualified in massage therapy from the London School of Massage. I've since completed 300 hours of teacher training in hatha, ashtanga yoga and meditation in Rishikesh, India. I’ve also qualified in a range of massage styles in the UK and Thailand.

I approach massage with a holistic focus working through physical tension while taking you to a place of deep relaxation; nourishing the body, mind and soul. Whether you have specific aches and pains or you just want to unwind, de-stress, and relax, a massage treatment can alleviate the strain caused by our hectic lifestyles.

I've been practicing yoga for over ten years, having been inspired to start by my mum’s practice. At first I was drawn to the physical aspect of yoga. Having done gymnastics and ballet in my earlier years I loved the deep stretching of the poses. As my practice continued, I became more aware of how it made me feel, more calm and grounded, empowered to take on whatever challenges I was experiencing at the time, more happy!

I believe yoga has the power to connect and unlock potential in the body and mind. Regular practice helps to release physical tension, build, tone and stretch muscles and organs. It also cultivates confidence, self-belief and peace.

What does Mahasana mean?

Thailand jungle.jpg

A Sanskrit word can have many different meanings. Mahasana means, among other things, jungle - a space teaming with life and vibrancy, full of depth, beauty and hidden treasures. This is how we want our clients to feel when they walk away from our classes, treatments and events.

Mahasana also means great pose. In the yogic scriptures, it is said that there were originally 8,400,000 asanas, or yoga poses. Through the ages, these have been modified and reduced to the few hundred we know today. Each yoga pose has a unique set of benefits for the body and mind, making it great for a particular body part, ailment, or mental focus. We look forward to helping you find your mahasana.
